Public Artworks

Ricardo Mendoza creates transformative works for public sites rooted in a socially responsive and resourceful aesthetic. As artist and designer, he embraces formal and architectural explorations bridging design-build capacities, fabrication and installation with a variety of innovative mural making techniques including mosaic, painting, metals, digital media and sculptural three dimensional applications. His work also includes utilitarian environmental design projects, completing numerous artist designed retail installations including public street furnishing commissions. Major public works include the entries for the Monterey Park Library in mixed media mosaic and structural three dimensional suspended forms, the White Memorial Medical Center exterior in luminous LED and translucent polycarbonate panels rising six stories, a landscape architectural memorial to migrant agricultural workers titled Table of Dignity, of rammed earth, boulder and timber for the Orange County fairgrounds main entry and the Los Angeles Metro station at Firestone in towering custom inlay mosaics. He also completed the Sandra Cisneros Learning Center in Los Angeles with digital transferred and fired ceramic tile. Ricardo is presently completing an inlay mosaic for the new Los Angeles Animal Shelter in Cypress Park and is a lead artist and designer for the Great Wall of Los Angeles’s expansion into present decades. Ricardo is a graduate of the Otis school of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
